Women's and Gender Studies

Women's and Gender Studies (WGS) is a minor program open to students of all majors, regardless of gender, offering an interdisciplinary exploration of the human experience that places women and gender at the center of scholarly inquiry. The WGS program highlights the intellectual, artistic, political, social, economic, and spiritual contributions of women—contributions that traditional scholarship has long overlooked or undervalued. WGS uses the lens of gender to extend this analysis to a broader range of issues, including the social and cultural meanings of masculinity and femininity. WGS also explores the ways that race, class, nationality, religion, sexuality, and other social categories influence gender roles.

Author Beth Allison Barr is the James Vardaman Endowed Professor of History at Baylor University, where she specializes in medieval history, women's history, and church history. She is the president of the Conference on Faith and History and is a member of Christians for Biblical Equality.

Dr. Wright is an active publisher and reviewer in the field of feminist philosophy, a recipient of several grants and awards, and a regular contributor to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Author Theresa Varney Kennedy is Director of the Women's and Gender Studies minor program and Professor of French at Baylor University. Her research focuses primarily on early modern French theater, women playwrights, and the representation of women in early modern French theater.
